Making an emphatic return to releasing following a year-long hiatus, Khemet McConville is back with his groove-filled sing-a-long ‘Your Mother Said’. His first release since 2023’s ‘I Look Through Your Window’, McConville picks up from where he left in with his bold approach to musicmaking and his artistry.
Bringing a groovy, soulful tinge back to the airwaves, ‘Your Mother Said’ attempts to rewrite the rules of pop music as its funky grooves tell tales of childhood, manhood and beyond. Ditching the everpresent verse-chorus-verse, Khemet enthuses the record with a distinctive story telling the tale of a protagonist's life story and all the ups and downs that go along with it. The track couples elements of gospel, Motown, soul and disco to pave the way for its silky rhythms. With its sing-a-long-esque backbone, the single is sure to cement Khemet McConville as a sonic powerhouse with his colourful rhythms and dynamic melodies.
Speaking about the release, Khemet explains, “The Track is a nursery rhyme-esque sing-along, with strong gospel overtones. Driven by a punchy yet smooth bass line, and accompanied by Motown-inspired drums, the track gradually crescendos until ultimately dropping you into the final verse where a sobering life lesson awaits you. I wanted to create a children’s song that would appeal to adults sonically and be simple enough for kids to sing along to lyrically. Keeping a simple repetitive hook, I deliver a detailed timeline of the character’s life and a number of life lessons to go along with it.”
