Emerging London artist al coffey returns with one of his most emotionally affecting releases to date, unveiling the poignant new single ‘nice meeting you, again’, a cinematic and deeply personal offering that pairs intimate storytelling with beautifully accessible pop sensibilities.

Written by al coffey alongside producer GETH, the track draws inspiration from coffey’s relationship with his grandfather and the painful reality of witnessing his gradual cognitive decline. Anchored by delicate piano melodies, subtle synth flourishes and atmospheric textures, the song creates a soft, immersive soundscape that allows its emotional core to shine. Through tender vocals and measured pacing, ‘nice meeting you, again’ captures the devastating experience of being forgotten by someone who remains unforgettable.

Speaking about the song, coffey explains:

"I still go and sit with him and listen to the same stories over and over, about his childhood dog, working on the Tyneside docks, falling in love. When I was younger, he used to tell me the same stories, but he knew who I was then. Now he often says ‘nice meeting you’ when I leave. The song became my response to that. Although you forgot my name, it was nice meeting you, again.”

The result is a moving tribute that explores memory, loss and enduring love with remarkable sensitivity. Rather than dwelling solely on sadness, the track offers moments of warmth and gratitude, transforming deeply personal experiences into a universal reflection on family connections and the passage of time.

al coffey is among a growing generation of LGBTQ+ artists helping shape the future of contemporary pop. After spending years privately writing poems and songs, the 2020 lockdown became a turning point, encouraging him to pursue music professionally. He later completed a Master’s degree in Songwriting at Tileyard Education, graduating in 2021 with a distinctive artistic identity and a refined creative vision.

Since then, coffey has steadily built momentum, earning support from BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio while attracting coverage from respected outlets including Wonderland, Earmilk and The Line of Best Fit. His growing reputation has been further strengthened through his work with House Gospel Choir, performing at major events such as Chaka Khan’s Meltdown Festival at the Southbank Centre, ITV’s National Lottery New Year’s Eve broadcast and DAZN’s Chris Eubank Jr. vs Conor Benn event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Beyond the stage, coffey’s collaborative credentials continue to expand. Over the past two years, he has lent his vocals to French dance duo Ofenbach, worked with acclaimed producers Adriano Desire and michelangelo.mp3, and participated in songwriting sessions in Helsinki with Elements Music. He has also become a regular performer at Queer Edge London, cultivated a TikTok following of more than 8,000 fans and surpassed 130,000 Spotify streams.

With ‘nice meeting you, again’, al coffey demonstrates the power of vulnerability in songwriting, delivering a release that feels both intensely personal and universally resonant. As his profile continues to rise, the single stands as a compelling reminder of his ability to transform lived experience into affecting, memorable pop music.
