Singer/songwriter Noah Solt is set to make serious waves in the indie folk scene with his debut single, ‘Spheres,’ to be released by Starita Records on August 23rd. The atmospheric and poetic track is a warm welcome to Solt’s world, influenced in equal parts by his formal musical training and time spent sailing through 26,000 miles of open ocean. With lush soundscapes and origins on grand piano, ‘Spheres’ whisks the listener away on a soothing journey of layered melodies and cinematic strings, led by Solt’s stunning, and hypnotic, vocals. “Wash, don’t fight the fear, I’ve been washed across the silent space around through my years,” he sings, as if comforting the listener directly. The single is just a taste of what is in store from Solt’s upcoming debut album, ‘Big Water,’ a further exploration of self-reflection and hope. Fans of Dustin Tebbutt or Brian Eno and Cinematic Orchestra will gravitate towards Solt’s work, and stay for its singularity.
Raised in the landlocked Colorado Rocky Mountains and having developed skills as a guitarist, Solt’s inherent musical talents found him at Berklee College of Music in Boston during the onslaught of COVID-19. He chose to step away from the clear-cut path of school in 2020, instead opting to follow his heart and become a professional sailor. Along his trips, his music was a guiding force, always with him as he marveled at the vastness, unchecked power, and beauty of the ocean. It became his single greatest inspiration, as he found himself penning the tracks on Big Water with themes of transition that mimicked the sunrise he often watched on his boat. The album deals with finding empowerment to face the challenging unknowns in life, as well as connection in the vast spaces of such unknowns.
‘Spheres’ was written in the same way, on a trip between Namibia and Brazil on St. Helena. This small, isolated island in the middle of the Atlantic was perfect inspiration, and after sitting down at the piano the lyrics were solidified within 45 minutes. Solt sums up the message as, “Greeting every moment as you are and practicing trusting yourself is enough. This song is my way of empowering myself and others to allow ourselves to be ourselves.” He wrote it with his own friends in mind.
‘Spheres’ was produced and recorded at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals in collaboration with GRAMMY®-recognized producer, Starita. Starita is well recognized for his unique genre blending style incorporating electronic elements blended with live instrumentation that stems from his deep roots in electronic, dance, ambient, and classical music; resulting in a lush yet complex soundscape.
To keep the original intimacy of the track alive, Starita incorporated simple melodies that blossomed into melodic hooks and strings, always sure to bring, in his own words, “a very hard backbeat and groove to carry it.” The entire track was arranged within ten minutes, an exercise in artistic trust and organic collaboration.
Solt shares, “After listening to this song, I hope the audience will walk away feeling a bit more peaceful than they might’ve been before and can take a deep breath.”
