Osmunda Music captures a moment of pure instinct on her mesmerising new single ‘Tetrahedron’

There's a significant difference between writing about meditation and attempting to capture the experience itself. But on her latest offering ‘Tetrahedron’, Osmunda Music allows instinct, improvisation and atmosphere to shape a piece that feels like a moment perfectly preserved exactly as it happened.

The project of LA-based artist Rebecca Trujillo-Vest, Osmunda Music has steadily developed a catalogue where spirituality, contemplation and atmospheric songwriting overlap. ‘Tetrahedron’ pushes those ideas further, largely because there was no predetermined song when the recording began.

Everything heard on the track was created live in a single improvised performance. There were no rewritten sections or replacement vocals afterwards. She simply entered the session and followed wherever the music took her.

Dream-pop, ambient electronics and cinematic indie influences all appear within its palette, but none feel rigid enough to completely define it.

Knowing the performance was captured in one take makes its fluidity particularly striking. There's an inherent vulnerability to improvisation because every decision becomes permanent the moment it's made. Yet rather than sounding uncertain, the artist embraces that absence of control, as melodies appear naturally, vocals hover within the arrangement and individual sounds seem to emerge before dissolving back into the wider atmosphere.

It also makes ‘Tetrahedron’ an intriguing third preview of the forthcoming 'Wrapped in Warmth' EP. Following the title-track and ‘It’s a Beautiful Place’, the new single continues Osmunda Music’s inward trajectory, moving beyond ideas of comfort and awareness towards something more abstract and meditative.

For something conceived entirely in the moment, ‘Tetrahedron’ feels remarkably complete. It's intimate, hypnotic and beautifully unhurried. Offering up a recording that finds its strength not in knowing exactly where it is heading, but in trusting the journey enough to follow it.
