Musical chameleon Plain Mister Smith returns with his latest single, 'We Were Called The Foxx', released October 24th via Amelia Recordings/Symphonic. Following the sly, playful energy of Miss Sunshine, the track marks the second glimpse into his forthcoming album, slated for Spring 2026.

Formerly the guitarist of Canadian darkwave outfit Moev and a cellist with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, Plain Mister Smith has long blurred the lines between classical training and indie experimentation. Operating between Vancouver and London, he’s carved out a singular niche, conjuring eclectic, indie-folk soundscapes infused with introspection, clever lyricism, and a distinct sense of play. His work has garnered praise from tastemaker publications including Wonderland, CLASH, NOTION, Under the Radar, Earmilk, METAL, Noctis, and Atwood.

We Were Called The Foxx is a nostalgia-tinged journey into childhood misadventures and first musical experiments. Backed by Cure-esque guitar lines, a tight, in-the-pocket groove, and the lilting vocals of Findlay Brown, the single feels cinematic, like the perfect soundtrack for a coming-of-age film. The track will resonate with fans of Tame Impala, Death Cab for Cutie, and The Beatles.

“‘The Foxx’ was my first band in grade 6 or so.  It was a bit of a sonic disaster - I don’t even think we knew we needed to tune our guitars. But you have to start somewhere/sometime! ‘We were called the Foxx’ is a testament to the crazy cacophonic shenanigans we got up to as pre-pubescent want-to-be rock gods.”

With We Were Called The Foxx, Plain Mister Smith continues to prove himself as an artist unafraid to blend wit, nostalgia, and musical dexterity, a name to watch as his next album approaches.
