Psyence started out as many bands do - a fun project between school friends. Based in the working class area of the Potteries, in Staffordshire, West Midlands, their inspiration comes from their hometown which has a strong heritage in rock. Psyence are not new to the game, they’ve already been received warmly after a string of singles, two E.P and an album. Unable to tour their previous works for much of 2021, they decided to turn their attention refining and developing their sound.
This new sound can be found in their latest album “Lessons in Forgetting Everything (L.I.F.E).” The album is their chance to showcase their new take on alternative rock, creating bangers that feature almost tropical sounding melodies. Tracks such as “SUGAR SWEET” showcase a more infectious and pop infused take with heavenly backing vocals and groovy drums. Whereas tracks such as “SO HIGH” is an out and out alternative rock banger, with thrashing drums and distorted guitars.
Psyence says: “Our sophomore album is finally here, we’ve spent a lot of time cooped up in the lab over the past two years working on this. Titled, “Lessons In Forgetting Everything” or “L.I.F.E”, depending on which way you want to look at it, it’s a tale of maturity, mental anguish and an ever growing need to break the mould and get away. LIFE IS NOT AN EXACT PSYENCE, but we think our second album comes close to representing who we are and what has happened in our lives in the last couple of years.”
Psyence have announced a new album launch event at the Sugarmill in Stoke on 7th October and play at the Shiine Festival in Minehead on 13th November. Other dates to be added soon.
