Rumia returns with her sophomore album, Old Enough to Save Myself, a dynamic new project exploring senses of the self and growth.
Just in time for the summer, Old Enough to Save Myself is a 12-track strong project presenting a blend of melancholic 90s trip-hop with warm acoustic elements. With songwriting in both English and Spanish, Rumia’s deeply vulnerable lyricism spans personal growth, family dynamics, and emotional transformation on Old Enough to Save Myself. With genre-bending sensibilities and lyrically reflective poise, Rumia captures the complexity of growing up in a world that often leaves little room for vulnerability.
Produced by Manuel Colmenero, the album balances electronic and organic textures, creating a sound that feels both intimate and expansive. Its influences range from Radiohead and Mazzy Star, to contemporary voices like Lana del Rey and Phoebe Bridgers.
At the heart of the album lies “Kept All the Pain”, a raw and moving trip-hop track that reflects on generational trauma, emotional silence, and the burden of trying to hold a family together. With lyrics like: “Wasn’t in my power to save them / If known, I would’ve saved myself” Rumia reveals a core truth of the album — the painful journey of carrying what was never hers to hold, and the strength it takes to finally let go.
Each song is a confession, an act of resistance, and a release. With this second album, Rumia not only solidifies her place as one of the most authentic voices in the alternative scene, but also invites us all to find strength in our own fragility.
On the record, she shares, "This album is about breaking cycles, letting go of what once hurt, and realizing I no longer have to save anyone — I can save myself. Old Enough to Save Myself is the sound of a wound beginning to close. It speaks of family, mental health, and the courage to walk away from what no longer belongs to us."
Other standout singles include ‘Role Model’, accompanied by a stunning new music video, and ‘Shift In The Air’, an exploration in lyricism that teased Rumia’s new chapter in rich textures and mood-building through her music. The record arrives as a culmination of Rumia’s musical expertise, presenting a lush soundscape of musical exploration and arresting lyricism - an exciting latest chapter of Rumia’s creative journey.
