Glasgow’s genre-warping theatrical post-punk poets San Jose have unveiled their electrifying new single ‘I’ve Got You’. Premiered on BBC Radio 6 Music, the single marries the chaos of their unforgettable live shows with a shimmering studio polish, offering a bold leap forward for the six-piece and building on their fast-growing reputation as one of Scotland’s most exhilarating musical exports.

Produced by Christopher McCrory (Walt Disco, Catholic Action, Joy Hotel), ‘I’ve Got You’ is a fever dream of jagged guitars, feedback-laced distortion, pounding drums and eerie choral textures. It lurches between ecstatic highs and haunting lulls — a restless, theatrical journey that mirrors the band’s famously unpredictable live energy. From the opening chorus, through warped saxophone interludes and chant-heavy climaxes, San Jose offer an uncompromising sound that feels both deeply personal and cosmically unhinged.

“I’ve Got You is an unconventional love song at its heart,” the band explains. “We wanted to explore the slimiest depths of self-love — letting it realise and personify. Is there a moment of pleasure that goes too far, and if so, when and why?”

This theme takes surreal form in the song’s imagined setting: a brothel made entirely of mirrors, forcing the listener to confront desire, ego, and indulgence. “Confronting your own hedonistic desires is naturally uncomfortable,” they continue, “and we wanted that to be represented in how the song sounds. Chris [McCrory] helped us walk the line between filth and flirtation, wrapped in an expanding soundscape of spatial noises.”

Sonically, ‘I’ve Got You’ finds San Jose in riotous form, reminiscent of early Black Country, New Road and Cabbage, yet undeniably unique in their execution. It’s at once cerebral and feral — punk that flirts with orchestral grandeur while never losing its teeth.

San Jose’s rise has been as unpredictable as their sound. Renowned for immersive, performance art-laced shows — including the crucifixion of a man in a bear costume at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut — their gigs are less concerts and more spectacles. Their ethos? Every show must outdo the last. The boundary between band and audience doesn’t blur — it shatters.

With a “mini-orchestral” ensemble backing their unhinged frontlines, they’ve sold out legendary venues across the UK, headlined Tenement Trail, and opened for post-punk peers like Gallus, Courting, and Hotel Lux. In Glasgow’s bustling underground, they’ve carved a space all their own: satirical, smart, and completely untamed.

‘I’ve Got You’ is a frenzied yet calculated push against the walls of genre, performance, and identity. As San Jose continue to break rules and turn heads, this release cements them as a vital voice in the UK’s next post-punk wave.
