There's a noticeable shift in Shannon Darcy’s new single ‘Treasures and Gold’. Where previous releases have often leaned into attitude and defiance, this one pulls the noise back and lets the wound sit closer to the surface.

Written during a difficult period, the track centres on the complicated pain of being let down by someone whose role in your life should suggest the opposite. But instead of dressing that experience up in broad metaphors, she approaches it like an unsent letter, giving voice to the things that are often hardest to say when family history, fear and affection are all tangled together.

There's no need for confrontation to be explosive here. The emotion comes through in the acknowledgement that love and hurt can occupy the same space, and that being connected to somebody doesn't automatically make their behaviour easier to accept.

At just 22, she is already establishing a reputation for placing story at the centre of her work, and ‘Treasures and Gold’ sharpens that instinct considerably.

Following the more confrontational edge of ‘Control Freak’, ‘Treasures and Gold’ reveals a softer side without making her sound any less assured. If anything, the vulnerability feels like another form of confidence here.

With major live appearances already behind her and a performance in Las Vegas ahead, Shannon Darcy’s profile continues to grow, but this release feels significant for a different reason.

‘Treasures and Gold’ is the sound of an artist realising that strength doesn't always have to shout. Sometimes it's simply the courage to name what hurt, accept what cannot be changed, and refuse to let somebody else’s actions define your own worth.
