There's something wonderfully unfashionable about the message at the centre of ‘Here We Go’: close the laptop, leave the house and spend some time with actual people.

Stephen Webber’s latest Ukelately single turns that simple idea into an exuberant acoustic rush, pairing humour about post-pandemic habits with a broader reminder that community still matters. The result is bright, playful and knowingly ridiculous in places, but never frivolous.

The artist has always understood that social commentary lands better when it is attached to a memorable tune, and ‘Here We Go’ proves the point. The ukulele provides the rhythmic backbone, but the arrangement quickly grows into something far more expansive, with fiddle, dobro and drums giving the track a restless country-folk momentum.

Casey Driessen and Andy Hall are especially effective, their rapid exchanges injecting real fire into the song without overwhelming its easygoing personality. Caleb Gilbreth keeps everything moving with a loose but energetic groove, while Zahara’s closing vocal brings a welcome sense of lift and celebration.

The humour about Zoom calls and half-dressed home working gives the song an immediate familiarity, but beneath the jokes sits a genuine concern with disconnection. It's not pretending the world’s problems can be solved by simply going outside. But it does argues for something smaller and perhaps more achievable: showing up for one another.

In a period where isolation and digital overload have become easy subjects for despair, Stephen Webber chooses movement, laughter and communal energy instead.

‘Here We Go’ is spirited, witty and packed with musicianship, but its best quality is its warmth.

Stephen Webber makes the case that reconnecting can simply begin with getting dressed, stepping outside and singing with whoever happens to be there.
