Rising Scottish artist and producer SHEARS (Rebecca Shearing) has announced her much-anticipated debut album 'WE ARE BUT CHEMICALS', set for release on 10th October. To mark the announcement, SHEARS has unveiled 'BONES', the album’s most haunting and stripped-back track yet.
Known for her electrifying dance-pop anthems and her work with acclaimed Scottish collective Hen Hoose, SHEARS has built a reputation for merging deeply personal, candid lyricism with infectious club-ready sounds. On 'BONES', however, she trades big beats for a stark, atmospheric piano melody, allowing her powerful, angelic vocals to take centre stage.
“‘BONES’ is about the side effects of hormonal birth control and what women have to put in their bodies from an early age,” SHEARS explains. “I read Nasty Women and so many of the bad encounters with the pill resonated with me. It’s about the lack of research into women’s health.”
The accompanying video, created in collaboration with designer Genevieve Ryan, uses poignant animation to visualize the physical and emotional impact described in the song. “The character morphs into a pill as bones fall out, representing the woman’s monthly cycle and the psychological toll it takes,” Ryan adds.
