1. Duckwrth - Vertigo
Duckwrth is one of my favourite artists and a person who always tries to innovate in all directions. I see that he works towards expanding his vision beyond the music which has been a goal of mine as well, so he is always a good inspiration in this regard. I like a lot of his works but "Vertigo" stands out from the rest of his songs, with a very dark place of pressure, feeling lost and disoriented, even dizzy, which was very relatable for me in the beginning of 2024 when I started writing my new EP. And he conveys this very well both sonically and visually. This video aesthetic was a big inspiration for my re-branding.
2. Tyler The Creator - Hey Jane
There has been a big fuzz about this album, of course, and similarly to Duckwrth I like Tyler because he brings the story beyond music and tries to innovate with his creative direction. I was already expecting interesting things from the album, however, when I first played specifically this song I started crying. I don't come across many artists who talk about this topic so openly and in a raw, even rough way. It's a very heavy experience that close people to me had to go through and also a very heavy issue from a political point of view, as we see surprisingly a lot of countries having the conversation to go back to limiting women's rights. Having an influential man saying out loud that he is pro-choice, despite his own flaws, despite that the point was probably not to be political at all, I think sends a good message at the end of the day.
3. LARA - Cloudy Skies
I am lucky enough that the artist Lara is based in the North of the Netherlands just like me. So the moment Cloudy Skies dropped I went to talk to her about the inspirations behind the song. Turned out it was very close to what my EP Fragments of healing was about. This really spoke to me. It was another proof that we all have similar experiences and that's why it's worth it to share a story.
4. WILLOW - Symptom of life
I've been following the development of this artist since she was a child, and her growth is just magical. This song is full with surprises at every corner but yet calming and exploring spirituality and self-discovery. Which, again, really relates to me as an artist and person.
5. Raleigh Ritchie - Stronger Than Ever
Most of the people know Jacob as an actor but I think they will be surprised by his music. I think there's something really raw, authentic and poetic about his craft. This song is a sigh of fatigue in attempt of finding your way in a complicated life, having doubts and dealing with them. I think as any person my age, having such thoughts can be really hard, especially perusing career as an artist. So hearing his thoughts felt almost like hearing my own.
