5 Songs I Love w/ Scrawny

Scrawny (Jesse Dill) graces our ears with a brand new release today. His new EP 'I could learn a thing or two' is a deeply personal journey for Scrawny which he wanted to share with his listeners. The final offering in the tracklisting is 'Space', a whimsical alt-pop tune that also comes with its own stratospheric music video!

Following the release we caught up with Scrawny to find out more about the music he loves and that inspires him. Be sure to check out the new EP and music video for 'Space'!

1. MAGIC GIANT - Set On Fire

I could pick so many songs for this list of songs I love, but I'm narrowing it down to songs I'm currently listening to. This song by MAGIC GIANT is incredible start to finish. It captures an energy that is infectious. This is one of those songs that you listen to at full volume. The mid song switch to a folk inspired, double time beat is electric! I cannot stop listening to this song and it will be in my rotation for a long time.

2. Foster The People - Lamb's Wool

This song hooked me from the first chord. The solo piano intro sounds distant and comforting. And just when I was comfortable, it slams into an incredibly wide and beautiful wall of sound. The vocals are timid and fit the sound perfectly. This song takes me on a journey, where my brain unplugs and falls into the soundscape.

3. Dayglow - Woah Man

All of Dayglow's music is incredible, but this song in particular has been on repeat. This song has a raw emotion that is difficult to record, but Dayglow does it masterfully in the second chorus. His voice pairs beautifully with the melody choices and the instrumental theme throughout. I also love the lyrics: "Cause if you wanna keep on growing, you’ve gotta leave some things behind." This has been a focus within my own music. Every time I listen to this song, I feel inspired.

4. Manchester Orchestra - Telepath

Do you feel like crying for two minutes? I didn't expect to be a blubbering mess the first time I heard this song. I don't even know how to put into words how perfect this song is. The vocals are so pure and purposeful, the strings are beautiful and the lyrics rip out my heart. If you talk to me, there won't be many words said before I mention my amazing wife. She is my inspiration and best friend. This song reminds me of that.

5. The Vamps - Better

I'm finishing this list with an upbeat song from The Vamps! The synth work in this song is impeccable. Everything just fits together like a well-oiled machine, and it definitely has that 80's industrial sound. The vocal treatment is also stellar. I don't categorize many songs as a "fun song," but this is a fun song. Can't help but get up and dance to this one!
