BRYANT KEITH Has More On His Mind Than Another R&B Love Song

Call it a genre, a working description or simply a useful way of explaining the music. BRYANT KEITH calls his approach “psychological R&B”, and “IMPATIENT” gives a pretty good idea of what he means.

KEITH, an artist, songwriter, producer and psychologist originally from Indianapolis and now based in Houston, approaches R&B from a particularly personal position. His new single is less concerned with romantic fantasy than with what happens inside a person when a relationship starts putting pressure on them.

The track moves through several familiar situations: revisiting old problems, waiting for an explanation, trying to distract yourself and wondering whether you are making the right decision. But KEITH does not present these as neat stages with an obvious answer at the end.

Instead, “IMPATIENT” keeps the listener close to that uncertainty, as KEITH weighs his feelings against his growing frustration.

The early-2000s R&B influence gives the production a familiar point of reference, while the subject matter belongs firmly to KEITH’s own perspective. He wrote and produced the track himself at home, building it from an AKAI MPK keyboard, drum chops and soul samples.

It is also a useful preview of THE LOVE PACT, which is due later this year. The EP should provide a broader picture of KEITH’s approach, but this single already establishes one important characteristic: he is interested in the reasons behind emotional behaviour, not just the emotion itself.

That distinction matters. Plenty of songs can tell you that somebody is hurting. “IMPATIENT” spends more time asking what that person does while they are hurting.
