Montréal-based synthwave producer Das Mörtal returns with DECVY I, a seven-track mini-album that pushes his dystopian electronic sound into darker, more psychologically demanding territory. Released on 30 October 2026 via Lisbon Lux Records, the project marks the opening chapter of an ambitious trilogy exploring physical and mental deterioration through darkwave, dark techno, witch house and trance. Written during a period of personal health struggles, the record channels illness, pain, obsession and exhaustion into an immersive electronic experience, finding a compelling balance between emotional intensity and meticulously constructed production.

Across DECVY I, Das Mörtal demonstrates an instinctive understanding of atmosphere and tension, building compositions around hypnotic synth patterns, weighty percussion and brooding electronic textures. The opening track, ‘DRAIN ME’, introduces the project's trance-punk edge, translating the frustration of medical uncertainty into an abrasive, forward-driving arrangement. Elsewhere, ‘GHOST’ explores grief through shadowy witch-house production, while ‘PARASITE’ uses darkwave textures to portray illness as an invasive presence. ‘NO CONTROL’ continues the introspective thread, before ‘THE ENDLESS’ introduces flashes of euphoric trance against a backdrop of witch-house darkness. Closing track ‘IT KEEPS ME UP’ brings the album towards its most oppressive territory, combining dark techno and dystopian sound design to capture the psychological weight of persistent pain.

Focus track ‘RESTLESS’ provides a particularly effective entry point into the record, initially introducing a more accessible melodic sensibility through washed-out synth plucks and swelling basslines. That initial warmth gradually gives way to a much heavier electronic framework, with masterfully controlled percussion and haunting vocals capturing the isolation, agitation and sleeplessness associated with chronic discomfort. Over its three-and-a-half-minute runtime, the production steadily gathers momentum before breaking into an expansive instrumental passage. Guttural, booming basslines deliver considerable physical weight, while the sharp, distinctly '80s-inspired synth work injects an additional sense of urgency. The contrast between melodic accessibility and increasingly forceful sound design gives the track its defining character, allowing its emotional subject matter to translate into something genuinely physical and dancefloor-oriented. Fans of Vitalic, Perturbator, Boy Harsher and Ø [Phase] will find plenty to connect with here.

Since beginning his musical journey in Berlin, Das Mörtal has developed a distinctive production language shaped by German techno, experimental electronics and the atmospheric influence of horror and science-fiction soundtracks. Now based in Montréal, he has established an impressive international profile, accumulating more than 32 million Spotify streams, securing extensive editorial and media support, and performing almost 100 live shows since 2015. With appearances at Osheaga, Transmusicales, FME and MEG, alongside tour support for Vitalic, Perturbator and Carpenter Brut, his credentials within the wider alternative electronic scene are already firmly established.

DECVY I represents a compelling evolution of that creative identity. Rather than relying solely on the nostalgia and cinematic aesthetics often associated with synthwave, Das Mörtal uses the genre as a foundation for something considerably more visceral and emotionally complex. Dark, immersive and unflinchingly personal, the mini-album establishes an intriguing opening statement for the forthcoming trilogy, reinforcing his position as one of the more distinctive voices operating across contemporary synthwave and dark electronic music.
