Cam Cole Keeps ‘Chasing Dreams’ on Uplifting New Single
From busking on the streets of Camden to selling out shows around the world, Cam Cole has built his career on following his own path. Now, the blues-rock force channels that philosophy into his latest single, ‘Chasing Dreams’, taken from his forthcoming album Lost In Creation, out October 30th.
Driven by a four-on-the-floor rhythm, vintage guitar tones and Cole’s trademark blues grit, ‘Chasing Dreams’ explores the realisation that changing the world can sometimes begin with focusing on the life directly in front of you.
“The song is about a time when I was trying to solve all the problems of the world and taking them on and getting swallowed up by it,” Cole explains. “It’s about realising that the best thing we can actually do instead is be the best version of ourselves, and through that we make the world a better place. So you chase your own dreams and I chase mine.”
The track offers another glimpse into the expanded sound of Lost In Creation, recorded at London’s Dean Street Studios and mastered at Abbey Road. While Cole maintained the live foundations of the one-man-band approach that made his name, recording his Farmer Footdrums and main guitar simultaneously, the sessions also opened the door to guest vocalists, unusual instrumentation and greater experimentation.
“This whole album has a different feel to my previous ones,” Cole says. “We started experimenting and painting around it with different vibes and sounds, guest vocalists and odd instruments, and then the tracks really came alive.”
‘Chasing Dreams’ became one of the unexpected highlights of that process. Initially viewed by Cole simply as a strong demo, the track evolved during recording into one of his favourite moments on the album.
The release continues a remarkable independent journey for the artist dubbed “probably the heaviest one-man band in the world.” After beginning as a Camden street performer, Cole has gone on to accumulate millions of streams and sell out shows across Europe, North America and Australia. His music has also appeared in the Emmy-winning Ted Lasso, an Amazon Prime documentary chronicling his first US tour, and more recently, his work was added to the soundtrack of EA’s UFC 6.
Despite its expanded sonic palette, Lost In Creation remains rooted in a simple idea: using music as a temporary escape from everything happening around us.
“I guess if there is a main theme on Lost In Creation that connects all the tunes,” Cole says, “it’s about escaping into music and having a breather for a moment.”
With ‘Chasing Dreams’, Cole turns that idea into an energising call to focus on your own path, let go of the weight of fixing everything at once and keep moving towards the life you want.
