Returning with more musical output for 2025, Chris Lewington is back with his new single ‘Shadow Play’. Flowing gently into the airwaves, the single delicately presents a driven acoustic guitar with a heartfelt, raw vocal. Penned about life and loss, ‘Shadow Play’ offers an artistic recalling of the drastic effects warfare can have on modern life. Taking cues from the likes of Bon Iver and REM, the track stands it's ground as the work of a true sonic craftsman.
Diving into the track, the artist emotionally shares, “The lyrics came about from reading about the testimony of some of the last ‘Hibakusha’ - survivors of the two atomic bombs over Japan at the end of WW11. They were all children at the time when the bombs were dropped, and the words they use to describe the event have a childlike curiosity and a very visual poetic language which is at odds with the actual horrors they describe. Their words seemed both beautiful and horrific at the same time. The middle eight is a snapshot of life the day before the bomb. The verses are a mix of their descriptions and my interpretations.”
