On her bold new single “Spring Cleaning”, Australian artist and multi-hyphenate EMEREE delivers a deeply personal yet universally resonant anthem of release, renewal, and self-possession. Out via Xelon Digital, the track signals a powerful new chapter for the rising R&B talent — one shaped by lived experience, creative growth, and unflinching emotional honesty.

Written during the Women in Music Production camp in Perth, “Spring Cleaning” is rooted in EMEREE’s ongoing journey of healing after surviving domestic violence. But rather than sit in grief, the song chooses motion — each beat a reclamation, each lyric a small act of liberation. There’s catharsis in the groove, vulnerability in the delivery, and strength in every subtle production choice.

We sat down with EMEREE to learn more about what makes her tick to celebrate 'Spring Cleaning', exclusively for FLEX. Enjoy!

How did you get started in music?

I started playing flute at age 6 and never stopped being obsessed with music. It is literally all that I eat, sleep and breathe.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

I adore Cleo Sol, RAYE, Solange, Amy Winehouse, and Katie Tupper.

How would you describe your sound?

Always under the umbrella of R&B/Soul, but because I'm a producer, there's so much more flexibility in branching out from those sounds which I love. So I'd say modern production with influence of 50's Soul.

What's your songwriting process like?

Different every time. I never try to work in only one way - it helps so much to be open to every day and room that you're in. This particular release was a collaborative process with three other songwriters, and I was producing. It was such a cool way to work, and I loved how open we all were with each other to achieve.

What’s your favourite song you've released so far, and why?

Spring Cleaning by far. I love this song so much!

Do you have a dream collaboration?

I would LOVE to produce for RAYE. I think that would be the absolute dream collab for me.

What’s the biggest challenge of being a solo artist?

Everything is very inward! I love collaborating and having other people but I'm so grateful to now be building a team who can help me make my decisions and reaffirm my direction with me.

How do you stay inspired creatively?

Living, thinking, travelling, experiencing new things.

What’s coming next for you?

I may or may not be announcing something next week!

What advice would you give to emerging artists?

The best advice I was ever given was that if you stay persistent and the work is good, it is not "if" it is just "when".
