Their first release 'Watercolours' is a vibrant and moving piece of tech house, interwoven with Shyam P's delicate and commanding vocals amongst Moon Rocket's exceptional piano led sonics.

It's a strong and statement debut from the pair, and there is much, much more to come. We had the opportunity to sit down with them both to learn more about how this wondrous collaboration came about, the debut album on the horizon and a lot more, exclusively for FLEX!

--

Hey Shyam P and Moon Rocket, welcome to Ignite! How are you doing?

Thanks for inviting us, it is a pleasure to be here!

First of all, how did you guys meet?

SP: I first got to know about Moon Rocket from seeing some online videos of him, playing the piano over house music and Djing and I always thought he was super talented, somebody I’d love to work with not long after I had a release on Nervous Records which he remixed. Shortly after this, I reached out to Moon Rocket and we started talking and discussing working on projects together and that’s how we first connected.

When did the album writing and recording for 'More Than Art & Science' begin?

SP: After working on several tracks together, I reached out to Moon Rocket and shared with him an idea and concept I had for my debut album, and I really felt that I wanted to work with somebody who really understood the vision and direction, to push the boundaries of getting the very best out of my songwriting and singing, and somebody who is very much aligned with the same vision of how to release music trying to create cool crossover house Music which, resonates with both the underground and it is accessible to the commercial masses.

SP&MR: Both of us realized quite quickly that this was something that we both had a very much aligned vision on and that’s how we began. We started writing tracks. We actually ended throwing away quite a few of the records that we originally wrote, because it took some time to really find the sound that we wanted to capture on the album, we purposely avoided any other artist features across the album because our plan for this debut record was always build and craft, a real unique sound that we could be known for.

Congratulations on your debut release 'Watercolours'! We love it, what does this song mean to the both of you?

SP: Watercolours is such a special record for us, the lyrics are written around the amazing times and memories from being in Ibiza and being in various spots around the world in the summer partying, carefree and brings together the vision of how you see the kaleidoscope of colours around you from the water to the sky to the sea.

MR: Originally we wrote the track with a very different production and this is something that we have gone back-and-forth on we are very happy with the final outcome.

SP&MR: We’re very happy with all of the Global support that we received from magazines online Media, and also from Spotify, who supported the track and put it on one of their editorial playlists.

Sum up the sound of this track in three words for us!

SP&MR: Deep, groovy and emotional

What can fans and listeners expect from this record?

SP&MR: Leave The World Behind it’s a very different record from our first release. It’s much more playful/crossover and uplifting and in essence the track is all about being able to lose yourself in music or whatever you love whatever you’re passionate about something and enjoy yourself in a moment.

SP: I think we live in a world now where we are obsessive over our phones obsessive over Cat moment taking pictures and videos and we often forget to just close our eyes and you know enjoy the moment and that’s what Leave The World Behind is all about.

What were your favourite moments of the recording process?

SP&MR: Recording the album has been amazing. Our favourite parts of probably been the more difficult parts and aspects of refining redoing retaking rewriting to really get the records to the level and the standard that we wanted where we could sit back and listen to the masters and be really proud and happy of what we had made and produced and really very blessed to be working together.

SP: Really very blessed to be working with Moon Rocket, who’s really pushed me to get the very best out of my vocals and songwriting. I think you could hear that this is my best work to date.

MR: I think that Shyam P is not only a really talented singer, but he also has a strong work ethic and I immediately knew that working with him would bear good fruits and I’m really proud of our work together.

And lastly, will you be taking this record on stage in 2024 after release?

SP&MR: Both of us have some really exciting ideas around our live performance and taking the album into a live environment. Obviously with Moon Rocket’s experience and talent playing the keys and obviously Shyam P’s singing. We feel we can really create and bring to life what the album is all about. We’ve also started to create some more acoustic Alternative versions of the album tracks and actually Leave The World Behind is the first one that we created an acoustic piano vocals version and that’s gonna be coming out shortly, so keep an ear out for that on Spotify and all the streaming platforms to hear a slightly different version, which we certainly gonna be using in our lives sets.
