Following the heartfelt reception of her recent singles 'Do You Want To Be Honest?' and 'It’s Never Easy (Leaving Someone Behind)', and fresh from a nomination for the prestigious Zilveren Notenkraker award, Dutch/Surinamese singer-songwriter néomí returns with 'Trigger', the latest glimpse from her new EP 'Another Year Will Pass'.
'Trigger' is an emotionally raw ballad that explores the quiet devastation of loving someone you know you can’t keep. With her signature delicacy and intimate lyricism, néomí captures the bittersweet choice between staying and leaving, where every decision is a prelude to heartbreak.
Speaking about the song, néomí shares: “The song is so real and painful I don’t think it needs a lot of explaining. It’s about being deeply in love with someone you know it will not work with. Staying or leaving, either way, it’s going to hurt.”
The accompanying video, directed by Dirkje Duwel, draws inspiration from the iconic western stand-off, depicting a quiet, charged emotional duel between two people finding their way back to each other. Through point-of-view shots and intricate exchanges of glances, the visual beautifully mirrors the tension and vulnerability of the track.
