Emerging from the quiet forests of Suffolk, 23-year-old singer-songwriter Samuel Taylor is set to release his debut EP, Lost & Overgrown, via No Roads Records (Mt. Desolation) this January. The collection of emotionally resonant indie-folk songs follows two radiant singles in 2025 that quickly positioned Taylor as a rising talent, earning plaudits from tastemakers.

The EP’s lead track, also titled 'Lost & Overgrown', delves into the burdens we carry from early life and the process of cutting away emotional overgrowth to start anew. Taylor describes it as a song about resilience, reflection, and the way past experiences shape our relationships: “It’s about cutting that overgrowth and starting again,” he explains.

Produced and mixed by No Roads Records founder Jesse Quin (Keane, Mt. Desolation) at Old Jet and mastered by Kevin Tuffy at Tuff Mastering, Lost & Overgrown showcases Taylor’s tender, heart-wrenching songwriting. The EP’s sound is anchored by finger-picked acoustic guitar, delicate strings, keys, banjo, and understated percussion, all arranged to allow Taylor’s fragile, emotionally attuned vocals to remain at the forefront. Ambient textures and subtle rhythmic flourishes give the music a cinematic quality, building from intimate, stripped-back moments to expansive, emotive climaxes.

Musically, Taylor’s work draws comparisons to the emotive whimsy of Sufjan Stevens, the soulful depth of Neil Young, and the early work of Ben Howard. Across the EP, melancholic undertones sit alongside a quiet resilience, producing a sound that feels both reflective and profoundly immersive. Taylor reflects on the collection:

“Lost & Overgrown is a collection of songs that ranges from, I hope, reassuring optimism to the hidden, most intimate parts of a relationship. Each song is a different shade of my own mental process and my observations of human struggles – I wanted it to be an insight into those quietly powerful moments in our own resilience and how rewarding it is when we find peace.”

Alongside the EP, Taylor will release his first music video for the track “Little World,” directed by Mat Kirkby (Adele, Basement Jaxx), promising a visual complement to his evocative sound.

Taylor’s story is as distinctive as his music. Growing up in the Suffolk countryside, he learned banjo by ear to his father’s bluegrass records, later picking up guitar and developing his voice in isolation. A detour through a contemporary music degree and Americana session work introduced him to Bear’s Den and Johnny Flynn, shaping his indie-folk sensibilities. Early in 2025, Taylor shared his music with Jesse Quin, who signed him immediately to No Roads Records.

With Lost & Overgrown, Samuel Taylor emerges as a deeply considered new voice in indie-folk, crafting music that is tender, cinematic, and wholly authentic—a reminder that even the quietest corners of the countryside can produce music of striking emotional power.
