Some reunions feel obligatory. Waver’s feels essential. With Space and Time, the rock duo deliver a compelling 13-track album that channels the spirit of ’90s alternative rock while reflecting the wisdom earned through decades of collaboration. It’s a return that doesn’t chase the past—it reclaims it.
Mike Sartor and Dorsey Stone first met as freshmen at Colgate University in the late 1990s, forging a partnership rooted in shared ambition and musical curiosity. Sartor’s classic songwriting instincts paired seamlessly with Stone’s intricate guitar work, creating a sound that was as emotionally resonant as it was sonically robust. Their early years on the Boston circuit cemented their reputation as a formidable live act.
After stepping away in the early 2000s, the duo reunited in late 2024 with renewed focus. Rather than attempting to replicate their earlier work, they set out to expand upon it. The result is Space and Time, a 56-minute collection that feels lived-in and authentic, balancing melodic immediacy with thoughtful introspection.
Recorded at Boston’s Ugly Duck Studios, the album showcases a tight-knit creative process. Sartor takes on lead vocals and a suite of instruments, while Stone delivers soaring guitar lines and co-lead vocals. Drummer Brendan McGillin provides a steady backbone, doubling as an engineer alongside Dan Babai. Tracks such as “Always Awake,” “Control,” and “I Miss You” highlight the duo’s sharpened artistic vision.
There’s a quiet confidence running through Space and Time. From the shimmering opener “Silvertone” to the aching nostalgia of “I Miss You,” Waver craft a record that bridges eras without sounding beholden to any single one. It’s a mature, assured comeback—one that proves time hasn’t diminished their spark; it’s refined it.
