Ottawa duo Wotts return with 'terminal', a sultry, introspective indie-pop single that captures the anxious aftermath of a breakup with shimmering precision. As the opening salvo for their upcoming EP 'COPE', the track blends the duo’s signature melodic sensibilities with R&B-infused textures.

From the opening synth swells, 'terminal' sets a mood of restless contemplation. Jayem’s vocals float over a mix of dreamy synths, hazy guitar lines, and groove-laden percussion that echoes the limbo of post-relationship uncertainty. The production nods to the band’s hip-hop roots, while embracing the atmospheric textures and emotive cadence that have become their indie-pop signature.

Lyrically, the titular “terminal” is a metaphor for the in-between space after love ends. Ricky 100’s basslines ground the track, while intricate guitar flourishes punctuate the ebb and flow of lingering regrets and tentative hope. There’s an understated cinematic quality to the arrangement, capturing the push-and-pull of coping with loss, a theme Wotts will continue to explore across 'COPE'.

With this new release , Wotts prove that they can convey the messy realities of love and life without sacrificing melodic charm or sonic sophistication. The track is a perfect primer for an EP that promises to explore the grey spaces of emotional recovery with honesty, groove, and style.
