Composer and multi-instrumentalist Xav Clarke has released his new single 'None of It’s Yours Anyway', the second track to be lifted from his upcoming debut album 'Fossil Forest', due May 9. The song follows last month’s acclaimed 'Skyscraper' and continues to showcase Xav’s distinctive blend of indie-movie charm, animation-inspired soundscapes, and wry, introspective lyricism.
Produced by Mike Lindsay (Tunng, LUMP, Supershapes) and written in a cabin on the Orkney coast, 'None of It’s Yours Anyway' began life as a rough cassette-recorded demo before blossoming into a sparkling, expansive indie-pop track. Built atop the original home recording, the final version features live drums from James Vine (Waldo’s Gift) and carries the infectious energy of Clarke’s heroes—think Bruce Springsteen’s 'Dancing in the Dark' meets The Cure’s 'Just Like Heaven'.
“At the time I was writing songs for an indie documentary and this one was initially just a late-night brain dance,” Clarke explains. “We noticed how much momentum was latent in the song that could be brought to life.”
The single is accompanied by a video filmed on a £15 digital camera around the dramatic Orkney coastline. Shot during Clarke’s winter stay at a remote studio perched by the sea, the video captures fossil-strewn cliffs, wild waves, and Neolithic sites—an intimate and elemental backdrop to the track’s reflections on impermanence.
