Jodie Nicholson redefines electronic pop in stunning new single 'You Wanted This'

North East based artist and producer Jodie Nicholson has another absolute gem for her listeners ahead of her brand new album 'Safe Hands' out May 10th.

The lead single 'You Wanted This', released via Quiet Crown / Absolute, is a track that serves as an entrancing introduction to Nicholson's new and exciting sonic world. It opens a window into the complex emotions that accompany the life of a musician, where Nicholson masterfully navigates the love-hate relationship with her craft, weaving together hypnotic melodies, pulsing keys, and swirling vocals to create a mesmerising soundscape.

The track unfolds with a soft-electro groove that steadily builds in intensity, culminating in a euphoric crescendo of synths and emphatic beats. Nicholson's production prowess shines through, as she effortlessly guides the listener through waves of emotion and sonic texture.

“To me, ‘You Wanted This’ is about remembering why I fell in love with music in the first place. As a kid, I was obsessed with Avril Lavigne, wished I was one of Roger Waters’ backing vocalists, always searching for cool music that no-one else was listening to, wanting to be on Stars In Their Eyes and sitting in the back of the car pretending I was in a music video, singing all moody through the window… It’s thinking back to how I viewed music then and regaining that child-like excitement for the music I make now as an artist. I’d like to think that if I ever have a wobble, this track will serve as a personal reminder of why I love being an artist and what I can be capable of. Unintentional, but it’s a pretty nice feeling.”

Influenced by the music of Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, "You Wanted This" pays homage to Nicholson's musical roots while carving out a distinct sonic identity of its own. It's a nod to the artists who have shaped her journey, while also serving as a testament to her own evolution as a producer. For Nicholson, this track represents a pivotal moment of self-discovery and empowerment, as she steps into her role as a fearless creator and visionary.
