Her exploration of traditional musical scales while working with an Indian singer during a later trip to India added another layer to the track, allowing her heritage to exist within the song naturally rather than as a decorative detail.

That sense of duality runs through Mila’s wider artistic identity. Half Indian and half white, and raised between different countries and cultures, the 25-year-old has never really approached identity as something fixed to one particular place. Instead, music has become the space where those different influences can overlap. Her Berklee background feeds into a sound that moves between alternative R&B, jazz, hip-hop and darker pop, while inspirations ranging from Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill to Billie Eilish and Norah Jones help shape its intimate, emotionally charged edge.

Yet where much of Mila’s songwriting leans into heartbreak, vulnerability and self-discovery, ‘One Night’ feels deliberately more assured. There’s no uncertainty here, just the rush of knowing you’re wanted and understanding that being desired doesn’t mean surrendering control.
